Bishkek, Dec. 8, 2025. /Kabar/. Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision Meder Mashiev held a series of meetings with representatives of the Global Environmental Fund (GEF), the Adaptation Fund and the Loss and Damage Fund.
The meetings were held within the framework of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30). At the meeting with representatives of the Global Environmental Fund, the parties discussed the launch of a new project cycle of the GEF-9. Its implementation is expected to begin in June next year. Minister emphasized that participation in the GEF-9 is of particular importance for Kyrgyzstan in terms of strengthening environmental sustainability and accessing additional climate financing.
Kyrgyz side presented its national initiatives, including measures to reduce plastic pollution, and expressed its readiness to support the initiative to create a new international convention on plastics. At the meeting with representatives of the Adaptation Fund, Kyrgyzstan's interest in expanding cooperation with the Fund and its intention to receive financial support for projects on climate change adaptation were reaffirmed. In particular, projects aimed at increasing the resilience of mountain ecosystems and vulnerable population groups were discussed. The parties exchanged views on the directions of future project proposals and strengthening interaction with national institutions.
Minister Mashiev also held talks with representatives of the Loss and Damage Fund, where the parties exchanged information on possible cooperation formats. Kyrgyz Republic expressed its readiness to actively work with the Fund, taking into account the growing climate risks and the need to strengthen mechanisms for responding to climate consequences.
Minister noted that active participation in international climate mechanisms is of strategic importance for Kyrgyzstan, which opens up new opportunities aimed at protecting nature, developing a green economy and increasing the country's climate resilience.
