HOTEL BOMBINGS INTENDED TO TARNISH RI'S IMAGE :HIPMI

Jakarta, July 18 (ANTARA) - Friday's bombing of the JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels which killed nine people were intended to tarnish Indonesia's image in the world and set its economy back, a young businessman said.

"Indonesia under President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President Jusuf Kalla has over the past five years succeeded in maintaining security, political and economic stability," chairman of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI), Erwin Aksa said here on Saturday.

He said the bombings were committed to soil Indonesia's image in the world's eyes so that its economic development will undergo an anti-climax.

"It will really be a matter of grave regret if the bombings cause our economy to reach an anti-climax," Erwin said in a HIPMI press release.

He said HIPMI supported the government's steps in the economic field so that the impact of the bombings could be offset.

"We have maintained investors' confidence and the government has to do its utmost to prevent the recurrence of such attacks," he said.

HIPMI condemned the bomb attacks on the two international hotels which claimed the lives of at least nine people. "The bomb attack is a cowardly act because it took the lives of innocent people," Erwin Aksa said.

He said the bombings were acts of unfaithful persons and had negated humanitarian values. "Therefore, HIPMI urges the government to hunt the mastermind of the barbaric acts," he added.

National Police chief Bambang Hendarso Danuri has called on hotels and supermarkets to increase security following the bombings of the hotels in Kuningan, South Jakarta, that killed at least nine people.

Transport Minister Jusman Syafii Djamal said this was decided by the transport minister and representatives of the military and the police with regard to supervising flows of goods and passengers.

According to Danuri, the attacks were suicide bombings and that the police were now still identifying the suspects based on data culled from remnants of their bodies found at the bombing scenes."***
