Ministry of Agriculture: Kyrgyz seed industry enters global market

Bishkek, Dec. 23, 2025. /Kabar/. Steady growth and historic achievements have been recorded in the seed production, nurseries, livestock breeding, and veterinary sectors, according to the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic.

According to the ministry, there are 86 seed farms operating in the country. Over the first 11 months of this year, 4,485 tons of high-quality wheat seed were procured, and the number of seed recipients reached 2,782, 14% increase compared to the 2024 target. More than 15 million seedlings were prepared, significantly reducing imports.

Kyrgyzstan has begun exporting seeds for the first time in its history. Forty tons of alfalfa seeds were exported to Russia, and 1.6 tons of pumpkin seeds to Japan.

It is noted that the total sown area in 2025 amounted to 1,245,600 hectares, and the gross grain harvest exceeded 2.3 million tons. High figures were also achieved for potatoes, vegetables, and melons.

Large-scale reforms have also been implemented in livestock farming, with 60.8 million soms allocated for the first time to purchase 270,000 doses of breeding semen, which were donated to specialists. More than 77,000 cows and heifers have been artificially inseminated, and 302 insemination centers are operational.

"Currently, 185 breeding farms are officially operating, covering cattle, sheep, horse, goat, yak, poultry, and beekeeping," the statement reads.

The Ministry is actively implementing new initiatives:

  • preferential loans at 3%;

  • Introduction of high-yielding crops (sorghum, safflower, ferula);

  • Development of horticulture and citrus;

  • Expanding secondary crops;

  • Establishment of a cattle breeding farm;

  • Developing organic agriculture and restoring pastures.

The agency emphasized that the results for 2025 confirm that Kyrgyzstan's agricultural sector is confidently moving toward sustainable development, exports, and food security.
