Kyrgyzstan's first IMO gold medalist accepted to MIT

Bishkek, Dec. 24, 2025 /Kabar/. Nazar Kirgizbaev, Kyrgyzstan's first-ever International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) gold medalist, has been accepted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Kyrgyz Ministry of Education reports.
On December 17, MIT published the results of its Early Action application round for the 2026 academic year. Nazar Kirgizbaev was among the accepted applicants.
In the past two years, Nazar became the fourth member of the Kyrgyz national mathematics team to be accepted to MIT. Previously, Tilek Askerbekov, Eldar Iskanderov, and Isken Kenjebaev were accepted to one of the world's leading universities.
Nazar Kirgizbaev was trained by Mamat Ishmatov, head coach and director of the Kyrgyz national mathematics team.
Nazar Kirgizbaev is a graduate of Secondary School No. 61. He is currently studying for his Cambridge A-Level at the Maarif Educational Complex, where he continues his education in accordance with international educational standards.
The Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic congratulated Nazar Kirgizbaev, his family, and teachers, noting that this result is a significant achievement.
