Thailand, Cambodia Ceasefire Talks Continue

CHANTHABURI, Dec 26 (TNA) - Thai and Cambodian military officials failed to reach a definitive ceasefire agreement on Thursday after a second day of intensive negotiations, as both sides swapped multiple drafts of a deal to end border hostilities.

The talks, held at the General Border Committee (GBC) secretariat level in Chanthaburi, concluded late Thursday evening without a signed document. However, officials expressed optimism, noting a more relaxed atmosphere compared to previous sessions.

General Nattapong Praokaew, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Armed Forces and head of the Thai secretariat, told reporters that the process has involved a complex "back-and-forth" of proposals.

General Nattapong said the Thai team worked rapidly to produce an initial draft on Wednesday night for immediate delivery to Cambodia. He noted that the sides have since moved through three iterations of the proposal as both parties explain their respective positions and concerns.

The goal remains to finalize a joint agreement by Friday, Dec. 26, to pave the way for a formal signing ceremony between the defense ministers of both nations on Dec. 27. -819 (TNA)
