TIMOR LESTE CONDEMNS BOMBINGS IN JAKARTA

Dili, July 21 (ANTARA) - The government of Timor Leste condemned the bombings of JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels in Jakarta on Friday morning which killed nine people and injured 41 others.

"We strongly condemned the terror acts. We also expressed our condolences over the fall of victims. The terror acts are against humanitarian principles in any part of the world," Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry of Timor Leste, Vicky Tchong, told ANTARA Saturday night.

He said that Timor Leste paid serious attention to the progress of the Indonesian government in taking actions against the barbaric bombings.

Tchong made the remarks on the sidelines of a meeting of senior officers of the two countries discussing the implementation of the recommendations of the Indonesia-Timor Leste's Truth and Friendship Commission.

Tchong said that as good neighbors, Timor Leste and Indonesia badly needed each other and cared for what were going on in their countries.

Many countries, including the United States, have condemned Friday's bomb attacks in Jakarta.

US President Barack Obama condemned the bomb attacks on JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels in Jakarta which killed at least nine people on Friday morning.

The US president said that his government as a friend and partner was ready to assist Indonesia in its recovery efforts after the bomb attacks.

"I strongly condemn the attacks that occurred this morning in Jakarta, and extend my deepest condolences to all the victims and their loved ones." Obama said on Friday.

He said that the American people stood by the Indonesian people in this difficult time, and the U.S. government stood ready to help the Indonesian government respond to and recover from these outrageous attacks as a friend and partner.

The foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on Saturday also denounced the Jakarta bomb attacks and backed the Indonesian government's efforts to fight terrorism.

"The ASEAN foreign ministers strongly condemn the bombings in Jakarta on 17 July 2009, which caused the loss of innocent lives and injuries," the statement said.

"We fully support the Indonesian Government's efforts to bring the perpetrators of these heinous acts to justice," it said.***5***
