Kupang, July 21 (ANTARA) - The United States Air Force (USAF) has concluded a civic mission program dubbed "Operation Pacific Angel" in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
In cooperation with the National Defense Forces (TNI), the USAF conducted the civic mission program from July 15-20, 2009 in the districts of Kupang and Kota Kupang.
TNI Headquarters' Health Center deputy chief Commodore Budhi Siswanto saw the USAF off in a military ceremony at El Tari air base to their home country on Tuesday.
US Consul General Cary R McClelland here on Tuesday expressed his gratitude to the Indonesian government, East Nusa Tenggara provincial administration, and all public elements who have supported and facilitated the civic mission in the health affairs in the province.
McClelland said the activity was intended to create a military cooperation between Indonesia and the United States, in addition to giving free health treatment to the local people.
"I hope this kind of cooperation in health affairs will continue to be conducted in the future," he said.
Organizing committee chairman Lt Col Ferdinand Roring said the four-day activity in the districts of Kupang and Kota Kupang in NTT was called Operation Pacific Angel.
He said the operation was especially dealing with health affairs and conducted by a joint TNI- USAF team.
The team, according to him, gave free medical treatment to people in Batakte and Oebelo villages in Kupang district, and in Naioni village in Kota Kupang district.
Besides conducting the free medical service, the team also built solar cell and water pumps in the villages to help their residents overcome their clean-water shortage problem.
Roring said the peak of the operation was marked by a medical evacuation exercise from the air between the TNI and USAF at El Tari airport from July 18-20, 2009.
He said the free medical services was provided starting on Wednesday in Naioni village and comprise examination and treatment of eye-sight, dental and internal ailments.
Before Operation Pacific Angel, the TNI had twice cooperated with the US military in similar activities.
