TAIWAN WANTS TO SHARE EXPERIENCE WITH RI UNDER COOPERATION SCHEME

Taipei, July 21 (ANTARA) - Taiwan wanted only to provide and share its experience on how to develop human resources under a cooperation and assistance scheme with Indonesia in particular, and with other countries in Asia Pacific, African and Latin American countries as well, a foreign financier said.

Speaking after the opening ceremony of a workshop on Taiwan's Media Development here on Tuesday, an Assistant to the Secretary General of the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF), Nelson Chang, said that through its international development and cooperation efforts, the Taiwan's ICDF helped the developing countries share economic growth and prosperity.

"We give priority to fighting poverty through agricultural innovation, increasing employment and sustainable growth, facing the challenges of the information society and passing on medical expertise to combat diseases," he said.

Taiwan's agricultural development experience has been charaterized by small-scale farming and it has exceptional skills and techniques in tropical agriculture over the years. In addition, Taiwan's agricultural sector contributed greatly to its accumulation of foreign exchange income, which was the source of the country's capital as a model for the developing countries.

On the basis of its knowledge, Taiwan's ICDF promoted comprehensive agricultural development programs in African, Latin America, the Carribbean and the Asia-Pacific regions.

According to him, his country played a critical role in helping countries draft policies, develop production technology and improve marketing technigues. "Our programs help the people of developing countries reduce poverty and starvation and establish a foundation for further development.

The private sector was a cornerstone of a nation's economic development. SMEs along with entrepreneurship rooted in Taiwan's society, had played a critical role in Taiwan's economic growth, providing a valuable model for developing countries, he said.

With international organizations and Taiwan's private companies providing funds, technology and human resources training, Taiwan's ICDF had brought international businesses to the private sector of cooperating nations to increase employment and sustainable economic growth.
