PRESIDENT: LODGE ELECTION COMPLAINT THROUGH LEGAL MECHANISM

Jakarta, July 22 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has again reiterated that certain parties who were not satisfied with the recent election results could lodge a complaint through the existing legal mechanism.

In his speech at the commemoration of Prophet Mohammad's ascension to heaven at Istiqlal Mosque on Tuesday night, the president called on all parties to set aside their sense of competition during the election campaign rallies.

"Competition and political climate usually heighten in general elections. The political rivals try even to keep themselves away from each other," the president said.

But he added that the safe, peaceful, and smooth election that has just been completed should be followed with reconciliation to strengthen national unity and integrity.

Therefore the head of state said certain parties who were not satisfied with the results of the election could lodge a complaint through the existing legal mechanism and regulations .

"If there are parties who want to lodge a complain about the election results, they can do it in accordance with existing rules and regulations," the president said.

President Yudhoyono also called on the nation to show to the world that democracy that was developing in the country was mature and peaceful.

On the occasion, the president also expressed again his strong condemnation to last Friday's bombings that had damaged the tolerant and pluralistic character of the nation.

"Whatever their motive and purpose, the terror act is against religious teachings and national values of civility, tolerance and humanity," he said.

The bombings at JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels had also damaged the sense of peace and security that had been developed hard by the country following various riots and security problems in the country in the past ten years.

President Yudhoyono said Indonesia is a great and pluralistic country that has various ethnicities and religions.

The pluralistic conditions, he said, must not pose an obstacle to the nation in developing and promoting brotherhood, moderation, civility and tolerance.
