GOVT EXPECTED TO ALLOCATE FUNDS TO DEAL WITH TERROR`S IMPACT
Jakarta, July 22 (ANTARA) - The revised 2009 state budget is expected to include funds for steps to be taken to deal with the impact of terrorist activity in 2009, a legislator said.
"We call on the government to prepare anticipatory steps in the face of the impact of terror acts," Deputy Chairman of the Budgetary Committee of the House of Representatives (DPR), Suharso Monoarfa, said here on Wednesday.
Suharso made the remarks in his report on the results of the working committee's deliberations with the government to the House Budgetary Committee meeting.
Besides by Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, the meeting, which was led by Budgetary Commission Chairman Emir Moeis, was also attended by Hartadi A Sarwono, deputy governor of Bank Indonesia, the central bank.
Suharso said that although the government had to prepare anticipatory steps in the face of the impact of terror acts, yet it must continue to maintain its budget deficit target in 2009 at 2.5 percent.
"The government has to take the anticipatory steps while trying to keep the deficit target in the revised 2009 state budget," he said.
In the meantime, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani said that the government would continue to pay attention to the decisions of DPR.
In taking a policy which would have a consequence to the state budget, it would do it as long as it would not exceed the deficit target of 2.5 percent in the state budget.
She said that in the near future she would gather inputs and listen to the relevant ministers in connection with the plan to take anticipatory steps.
Mulyani said that if the inputs they provided would impact the budget deficit we would adjust it to the agreed deficit amount.
"In the coming one to two days we will hold a meeting to decide steps that the government would take to minimize the impact of the bombings," the finance minister said.***
