PRESENTATION OF AZERBAIJAN`S THIRD PERIODIC REPORT ON INTERNATIONAL PACT ON CIVIL AND POLITICAL RIGHTS HELD IN GENEVA

Baku, 22 July (AzerTAc). Presentation of Azerbaijan`s third periodic report on International Pact on Civil and Political Rights was held during the 96th session of the UN Human Rights Committee on July 20-21 in Geneva.
Attending the event, Azerbaijan`s deputy foreign minister Khalaf Khalafov briefed the participants on the legal basis created in Azerbaijan to ensure and promote human rights and fundamental freedoms.
He said amendments and supplements made to the Constitution of Azerbaijan would contribute to strengthening human rights and freedoms in the country.
Khalafov also spoke of the work done to improve legislation, to ensure gender equality and rights of foreigners and stateless persons, as well as legal reforms and fight against corruption and human trafficking.
He also touched upon Armenia`s aggression against Azerbaijan and its consequences and the Azerbaijani government`s efforts towards improving the plight of refugees and IDPs.
Then, Khalafov replied to questions regarding the report.
The committe members praised the achievements in human rights in Azerbaijan and gave relevant recomendations.
