RI MARINE CORPS HOLDS SHOOTING COMPETITION
Surabaya, E Java, July 22 (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Marine Corps on Wednesday opened a shooting competition at the "Bumi Marinir" shooting range in Karangpilang, Surabaya, that will run until July 24, 2009, a spokesman said.
The competition was being participated in by nine teams and use the Brunei International Skill At Meeting (BISAM) system, a statement issued by the Marine Corps information division made available to Antara said here on Wednesday.
The participants were teams from Brigif-1 Mar, Menart-1 Mar, Menkav-1 Mar, Menbanpur-1 Mar, Brigif-2 Mar, Menart-2 Mar, Menkav-2 Mar, Menbanpur-2 Mar, and Brigif-3 Mar.
The competition would test the partcipants' skills in the use of pistols, rifles and "GPMG", the statement said, adding that for the pistol use, each team would have five members, for rifle use 10 members and for the GPMG category six members.
The shooting competition's purpose was to measure the Marine Corps personnel's marksmanship using the BISAM system and according to the required standards.
In addition, the competition was also to select the best Marine Corps soldiers in the use of pistols, rifles and GPMGs and prepare them for a greater Marine Corps shooting event, the statement added.
