TANGGUH GAS FIELD TO SHIP 56 LNG CARGOES THIS YEAR

Jakarta, July 22 (ANTARA) - The Upstream Oil and Gas Regulating Agency (BP Migas) said the Tangguh gas field in Papua will ship 56 cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to buyers in 2009.

Head of BP Migas R Priyono said here on Wednesday that of the 56 cargoes (one cargo is equivalent to 150,000 cubic meters), 17 cargoes would be shipped to Fujian (China), eight cargoes to Posco (South Korea), 12 cargoes to K-Power (South Korea), and 19 cargoes to Sempra Energy Marketing Co (the United States).

"We have the target to ship all of the 56 cargoes this year," the BP Migas head said.

He said that Tangguh shipped its first LNG export to Posco, South Korea, last July 6, and shipped another dispatch of 138,000 cubic meters to Fujian, China, on July 19, 2009.

"We predicted that the ship carrying the LNG export to China will arrive in Pujian on July 25, 2009," Priyono said.

He admitted that the loading process of the LNG ran rather slowly because the Fujian ship was also used to transport the gas for the first time.

So, there was also a small technical problem at the refinery plant, causing its production process to slow down.

He said that the first shipment to Sempra would be carried out beginning in September 2009.

The Tangguh LNG project is managed by a consortium of companies led by British firm BP Plc.

The production capacity of Tangguh LNG reached 7.6 million tons per annum with a gas reserve of 14 trillion cubic feet.

Priyono said that the sale-purchase contract of Tangguh reached 7.4 million tons per year which included Sempra Energy Marketing Co amounting to 3.7 million tons per annum, Fujian 2.6 million tons per year and Posco and K=Power with a volume of 1.1 million tons annually.
