INDONESIAN GOVT NEEDS TO REALIZE PLAN OF SENDING 1,000 WORKERS TO AUSTRALIA

Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara, July 22 (ANTARA) - The government and the relevant authorities like Indonesian migrant workers recruitment and placement agencies (PJTKI) need to seriously consider the opportunity of sending Indonesian migrant workers (TKIs)to Australia.

The opportunity offered by beef processing industries in Australia for 1,000 TKIs needs to be considered and responded to seriously.
All the relevant stakeholders like the ministry of agriculture and the ministry of industry as well as the private agencies in charge of sending and placement of migrant workers overseas, need to establish effective coordination in the sending and placement of 1,000 TKIs to Australia, protection deputy of the National Agency for the Placement and Protection of TKIs BNP2TKI), Marjono, said here Wednesday.

Marjono made the remarks in the socialization of the placement and protection of TKIs overseas to the relevant government agencies in East Nusa Tenggara following the departure of the Head of BNP2TKI Moh. Jumhur Hidayat to Australia recently.

Marjono said the request submitted by the Indonesian delegation to the Cattle Council of Australia in Canberra, and the Northern Territory Cattle Association in Darwin as something reasonable.
The sending and placement of 1000 TKIs overseas is some kind of counter trade, under which Indonesia each year imported 600,000 livestock each year. Thus, it is only reasonable that the handling in Australia also involved TKIs, he said.
He said that the measure taken by the BNP2TKI chief Moh. Jumhur Hidayat in visiting Australia, linking it with the consumption of the beef processing industry in Indonesia and the employment of TKIs in Australia, is an initial breakthrough which needs to be followed up soon.
Marjono said the BNP2TKI chief will soon meet the Agriculture Director General to realize the dispatch of the 1,000 TKIs.

"If we are not quick enough in our response, the golden opportunity may be grabbed by Vietnam," Marjono said, addding that the number of migrant workers from Vietnam in Australia had reached 5 percent of the total number of migrant workers in Australia.
He said Indonesia needs to consider Vietnam as a serious rival in the sending of migrant workers to Australia. Vietnam, he said, has a good marketing intelligence operating from door to door in Australia.
While in Australia, Marjono said, the BNP2TKI chief was studying cooperation in TKI placement in the formal sector in Australia, especially in animal husbandry, education, healthcare, construction, hotels, and information technology.
