GARUDA TARGETS RP3.7 TRILLION NET PROFIT BY 2014

Jakarta, July 23 (ANTARA) - National flag-carrier Garuda Indonesia has set itself the target of earning a net profit of Rp3.7 trillion in 2014 following its better performance in recent years, its president director said.

"We have improved our services, and set a target in 2014 to get a net profit of Rp3,7 trillion, after gaining Rp669 billion in 2008," Garuda president director Emirsyah Satar said here on Thursday at the inauguration of Garuda's new office here.

Garuda's new office was inaugurated by president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and attended among others by State Enterprises Minister Sofyan Djalil and Transportation Minister Jusman Syafii Djamal.

Emirsyah said in 2004, Garuda suffered losses totalling Rp811 billion but in 2008 it made a net profit of Rp669 billion.
"We call this a business transformation in every field and are to implement a new 'quantum leap' program until 2014," he said.

In line with the new program, Garuda had ordered a total of 50 B737-NG 800 aircraft part of which had arrived in 2008, he said.

Garuda, he noted, had also ordered 10 aircraft of the B777-300 ER type and four of the A330-200 type until 2011.

"We will be seeing one of the A330-200s and one of the B737-00s on this occasion today," Emirsyah said.

Having made the progress in 2008, Garuda's management was optimistic that it would be able to expand the company's fleet from 62 to 116 aircraft by 2014, he said.

"The cities of destination can also increase from the current 41 to 62 in 2014," Emisrsyah said, adding that the number of passengers could also rise from the present 10.1 million a year to 27.6 million in 2014.

"In addition, we are optimistic that our Skytrack rating which now stands at four will rise to five by 2014," Emirsyah said. ***
