KALLA`S SELF-RELIANT CONCEPT LESS POPULAR THAN BLT PROGRAM

Bandung, Indonesia, July 23(ANTARA) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla said the self-reliant concept he introduced during his campaign for president was less popular than the government's direct cash assistance (BLT program).

"I introduced the self-reliant concept in my presidential election campaign rallies but the people seemed to be more interested in the BLT program," the vice president said at a function to open a conference on Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Small and Medium Enterprises here on Thursday.

According to the vice president, the self-reliant concept he introduced during the election campaigns was in fact, difficult to be accepted by the people.

He added that the people had a tendency to accept pragmatic things because they did not know that the self-reliant would lead the nation to a better future.

In his opening address, Jusuf Kalla said the basic capital for somebody to become a businessman was idealism.

"Sometimes we have a wrong conception that to be businessman we have to think of capital, but in reality idea comes first and then followed by capital," the vice president said.

Kalla said most people had wrong conception because they put capital on top priority before running a business.

But according to him, the main capital for someone to run a business was that he or she has to have idea and innovation.

"Because an idea is valuable, seek it first before starting to do something," Kalla said before hundreds of people participating in the conference.

The vice president also explained that a businessman in the past was known as a trader who had a thousand ideas.

Therefore, he added that the essence for a man to be a trader was that he should have a lot of ideas.

"There is no magic formula or education for a man to be a businessman but the important thing is just to start and go it through without too much consideration," he said. ***
