MEGA-PRO DUO REJECTS KPU'S BALLOT COUNT RESULTS

Jakarta, July 25 (ANTARA) - Gayus Lumbuun, representative of the Megawati-Prabowo Subianto pair, rejected the recapitulation report on the results of ballot counting presented by General Elections Commission (KPU) Chairman Abdul Hafiz Anshary.

KPU Chairman Anshary here on Saturday presented copies of KPU's decree no. 265/KPTS/KPU/2009 to each presidential ticket on the decision of the result of ballot counting of the presidential and vice presidential election which was held last July 8, 2009.

But Gayus Lumbuun, who represented Megawati-Prabowo, refused to accept the decree's duplicate.

"We, as representatives of the Megawati-Prabowo pair refuse to accept the result of the ballot counting," he said.

The pair rejected the counting result because there were many suspected instances of fraud during the presidential election 2009, including problematic fixed voters lists (DPT), Lumbuun said.

He said the Megawati-Prabowo duo still had time to file a law suit on the result of the presidential election to the Constitutional Court (MK).

The open plenary meeting of KPU was attended by two presidential and vice presidential tickets, namely Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-Boediono and Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto but Megawati and Prabowo did not come and only sent their representative.

The plenary meeting began with the reading out of recapitulations in 33 provinces by KPU member, Andi Nurpati. There are 121,504,481 acceptable vote casts and 6,479,174 rejected casts.

The KPU officially announced that the Susilo Bambang Yudhyoyono - Boediono pair had won 73,874,562 or 60.80 percent of the votes cast in the July 8 presidential election.

The KPU in a plenary session here Saturday also announced that the Megawati Soekarnoputri - Prabowo Subianto duo had bagged 32,548,105 or 26.79 percent and the Jusuf Kalla - Wiranto ticket 15,081,814 or 12.41 percent of the votes.

The KPU building has been tightly guarded since Friday in view of the official announcement of the presidential election results.
