COURT READY TO HEAR ELECTION-RELATED COMPLAINTS

Jakarta, July 25 (ANTARA) - The Constitutional Court (MK) is ready to hear complaints about the results of the July 8 presidential election within 3 times 24 hours as of Saturday at 10.22 hours, a spokesman said.

The court's deputy chairman, Abdul Moekhtie, admitted that many disputes over the result of the presidential election had not been settled by the General Elections Commission (KPU) or the Election Supervising Agency (Bawaslu) and therefore they would be referred to the Consitutional Court.

"The question of fixed voters' lists, for example, still remains a main problem that has not been settled. And we are ready to receive and study it to see if violations are against fair, honest, free, direct, general and secrect principles of election," he said.

In line with its role to safeguard the consitution including assuring the democratic implementation of the elections the court "will see if violations have been done against the constitution during the polls so that finally a ruling is made."
As an example he referred to the case of fixed voters' list (DPT). "Is it true that the violations are systematic and massing across the country so that the election could be considered undemocratic and against the constitution. This is what we are going to study with regard to the complaints," he said.

Megawati Soekarnoputri and Jusuf Kalla rejected the result of recapitulation of votes done by the KPU at a KPU meeting on Saturday.

Megawati and her running mate Prabowo even did not attend the meeting and had sent even their legal team members to attend the meeting.

Jusuf Kalla and his running mate Wiranto attended the meeting but they also rejected the election results.

Together with Megawati and Prabowo they would submit evidence of irregularities they found in the election to the constitutional court.

Based on the result of recapitulation of votes incumbent president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was declared the winner collecting 60.80 percent of votes.

Megawati finished second with 26.79 percent of votes while Jusuf Kalla third with 12.41 percent of votes. ***
