PLN TO CALL TENDER FOR MUARA TAWAR ADD-ON PROJECT
Jakarta, July 27 (ANTARA) - State electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) will call a tender for the construction of Muara Tawar add-on thermal power plant with a capacity of 12,000 megawatts next week.
The project which would cost an estimated US$1 billion was part of the second phase of power plants with a combined capacity of 10,000 MW, PLN Planning and Technology Director Bambang Praptono said here on Monday.
"The tender for the construction of the Muara Tawar add-on project which is part of the second phase of the power plants will start early in August 2009," he said.
He said the company was in the middle of finalizing details of locations for projects which would be built in the second phase.
Meanwhile, PLN Operations Director of the Java-Bali Grids Murtaqi Syamsuddin said the company was waiting for a presidential regulation which would lay a legal basis for the construction of the second phase of power plants with a combined capacity of 10,000 MW.
PLN would call a tender for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the Muara Tawar Add-On project after the finance minister had endorsed the company's proposal for export credits to finance the project, he said.
The Muara Tawar power plant was called an add-on project because it would make use of heat residue to increase its electrical power capacity, he said.
The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) had earlier expressed intention to finance the project. EPC contractors which are expected to take part in the tender include Sumitomo, Mitsui, Mitsubishi, and Siemens.
The other power plant that will be put to tender in the near future will be a hydro power plant called PLTA Upper Cisokan with a capacity of 1,000 MW. The World Bank is expected to finance the project.
Provisional data show PLN has prepared 78 different locations for the power plants to be built in the second phase.
Most of the power plants with a capacity of 5,685 MW will be built in Java and the rest with a capacity of 4,021 MW outside Java.
