TWO FOREIGN NATIONALS NABBED IN ANTI-TERRORIST RAID
Karimun, Riau Islands, July 28 (ANTARA) - Police nabbed two Chinese nationals for failing to show immigration documents in an anti-terrorist raid on a number of hotels in Tanjung Balai Karimun, Riau Islands province, early Tuesday.
"They argued that their passports were held by the shipping agent that took them here," Chief of the Karimun Police resort Adjunct Chief Commissioner Djoko Rudi said.
Djoko said he could not yet contact the shipping agent to check the truth of their arguments.
"Whatever their reasons, they must bring with them their identity cards while in the Indonesian territory," he said.
The raid was part of activities to anticipate the possibility of suspects in July 17 bomb blasts at two Jakarta hotels fleeing to Riau Islands, he said.
"The raid targets tens of hotels and middle-class lodgings," he said.
"According to the instruction from the National Police Headquarters, we will conduct the raid three times a week," he said.
The bombings at JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels in the Mega Kuningan area in South Jakarta killed nine people and injured more than 50 others.
Chief of the Jakarta police's public relations unit, Senior Commissioner Chyshnanda Dwi Laksono, said last Tuesday that the
police investigation team had yet to confirm the suspects in the bombings, including the possible involvement of fugitive Malaysian-born extremist Nurdin M Top.
He said the police investigation team was still collecting a number of data or evidence related to the bomb attacks on the two hotels in Jakarta.***3***
