FOUR KILLED IN S JAKARTA FIRE

Jakarta, July 28 (ANTARA) - Four people were killed in a house at Tebet in South Jakarta which caught fire in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The bodies of the victims consisting of three women and a man had been taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in Central Jakarta for autopsy, spokesman for the South Jakarta fire department Dendy Asmawardi said.

The four were identified as Edi Wijaya (55), Salma (52), Ririn (24), and Meiliana (25), all of them the guests of Adityawarman, the owner of the two-storeyed house that caught fire, Dendy said.

Three of the victims were still in bed when the fire broke out so that they could not escape from the fire, he said.

A total of 21 fire trucks were sent to the scene to put out the blaze which broke out at 01.20 am.

Fire fighters had difficulties putting out the blaze because of narrow street leading to the scene and a lack of water sources, he said.
The fire could be extinguished at around 02.55 a.m, he said.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

In related developments, fire ravaged at least 153 houses at a densely-populated area in the East Kalimantan provincial capital of Samarinda early Tuesday.

The blaze spread quickly as most of the houses made of wood were located close from one to another, M. Fahmi, Pelita village head in North Samarinda, said.

There was no immediate report of casualties in the fire.***3***
