NEW DIRECTOR GENERAL OF TAXES INDUCTED

Jakarta, July 28 (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati on Tuesday inducted Muhammad Tjiptardjo as a new director general of taxes, replacing Darmin Nasution.

The appointment of Tjiptardjo to the post ended days of puzzle over who would fill the post after Darmin had been appointed a senior deputy governor of Bank Indonesia.
The induction came a day after Supreme Court justice Harifin A Tumpa installed Damin as a senior deputy governor of the cental bank to succeed Miranda S Goeltom.

Also present at the ceremony were a number of officials from the Finance Ministry and the Office of the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs as well as chief of the House of Representatives Commission for finance, national development planning, banking industry, non-ban financial institutions Ahmad Hafiz Zawawi.
Tjiptardjo was head of the South Sumatra and Bangka Belitung regional office of the directorate general of taxes from September 2005 to December 2006.

On December 29, 2006, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani appointed him as the intelligence and investigation director at the directorate general of taxes.

"I feel nervous," Tjiptardjo said as he was about to enter Djuanda I building at the finance ministry where he would be inducted as a new director general of taxes.

Zawawi said Tjiptardjo was a low-profile figure.

"Of course, the finance minister has considerations why she has appointed him to the post," he said. ***
