AZERI ICT AND POSTAL SECTOR REVENUES UP 10.3 PERCENT
Baku, July 29 (AzerTAc). Azerbaijan`s ICT and postal sectors generated revenues worth AZN495.5 million in the first half of 2009, increasing 10.3% in comparison with the same period last year, said communication and information technologies minister Ali Abbasov.
“The increase was 10.2% in the ICT sector, 12.2% in telecommunication sector and 16.7% in postal sector.”
“The share of the ICT and postal sector revenues in the GDP increased to 2.2 percent,” added Abbasov.
The minister said much has been done in the first six months to bring the communications sector in line with world standards.
“The sector saw investments in the amount of AZN20.7 since the beginning of 2009. We also opened 246,000 jobs during this period and increased salaries of people involved in the communication sector.”
