AZERBAIJAN TO PUT ITS OWN SATELLITE INTO ORBIT IN 2010

Baku, July 29 (AzerTAc). The talks over launching Azerbaijan`s own communication satellite AzerSat into space in 2010 are about to end, communications and information technologies minister Ali Abbasov said.
“All documents are already ready for signing the major agreement. And the results of a tender will soon be announced.”
“Today, space industry in Azerbaijan is on the early stage of formation,” the minister added.
Azerbaijan also plans to launch two more artificial satellite into space in 2011-2012 which will cover Eastern European, Northern African, CIS, Central and Eastern Asian countries.
Azeri ICT experts believe the possession of a national satellite would enable the country to build high-quality and reliable communication and television networks and increase the number of TV channels broadcasting in the country.
