UN COMMITTEE HEARS REPORT ON STATE OF GENDER EQUALITY IN AZERBAIJAN
Baku, July 29 (AzerTAc). The forth periodic report of Azerbaijan on implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women has been presented during the 44th session of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women.
The Azerbaijani delegation to the event was headed by Hijran Huseynova, Chairwoman of State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs.
Huseynova highlighted what the Azerbaijani government has done so far with respect to the some provisions of the Convention and outlined further priorities.
According to her, economic development in Azerbaijan contributes to solving gender equality-related issues.
Huseynova noted the Azerbaijani government has also gained achievements in reintegration of refugees and IDPs into society.
Members of the Azerbaijani delegation replied to the questions regarding fight against domestic violence, the situation of disabled women, women trafficking as well as enhancing women`s role in education and healthcare. They also briefed the UN experts on improving the legislation in Azerbaijan on ensuring gender equality.
New amendments will be made to the country`s legislation to protect the rights of women more efficiently.
