Pekanbaru, Riau, July 29 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Military head quarters (Mabes TNI) and the United States Pacific Command (US Pacom) will jointly hold a forest and land fire extinguishing exercise on Thursday, a military commander said.
"The fire extinguishing exercise actually will also be participated in by Singapore and Thailand, but these two countries will only observe the measure," operational division chief of the district military command "Korem 031 Wira Bima", Lt. Col. Ayi Supriatna said here on Wednesday.
The forest and land fire extinguishing exercise will be conducted at the Pasir Putih field, Kampar district, Riau province on Thursday.
The joint fire extinguishing exercise will involve three helicopters and a number of fire trucks, the spokesman said.
The U.S. military side through the U.S. Pacom, which is currently operational in the Pacific area to overcome the disaster, will involve 13 personnel in the exercise, he said, adding that the Riau provincial administration and the related institutions will assigne hundreds of their personnel in the exercise.
Previously, a workshop aimed to get an experience in exchange in overcoming land and forest fire between the Indonesian military and the U.S. Pacom was held here on July 27-28, 2009.
Riau is chosen for the exercise because forest fires often happened in the region, he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Riau deputy Governor Mambang Mit said the joint exercise between TNI and US Pascom was expected to produce the best possible solution to the land and forest fires in the province.
