HOSPITAL ON FIRE, SCORES OF PATIENTS EVACUATED

Serang, Indonesia, July 29 (ANTARA) - Sari Asih hospital in Serang caught fire Wednesday night, but the local fire fighters and the relevant government agencies managed to control the flames in a relatively short period.

However, while the fire did not cause too much damage on the hospital building, the patients and their visiting families panicked and rushed out of the building to save themselves.

The hospital's financial division chief Yusuf said the fire was triggered by a short circuit at the hospital's generator located at the East Serang toll gate in Kemang area, Penancangan villge, Serang.

A patient, Rahmat (40), of Serang, said he did not know there was a fire, because everything was so dark.

"I know that there was a fire by the cries and shoutings of the nurses telling me to get out of my room," Rahmat said.

A total of 59 patients and two sick babies were evacuated to a nearby mosque, while other patients were transferred to other nearly clinics.

Up to the publication of this report, the patients are still sheltered at the mosque, and the hospital was still filled with smoke.

The police and fire fighters were still trying to find the real cause of the fire.***
