HUNDREDS OF INDONESIAN WORKERS TO RETURN FROM JORDAN
Jakarta, July 29 (ANTARA) - A total of 460 problematic Indonesian migrant workers will be repatriated from Jordan next August, Head of the National Agency for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Workers (BNP2TKI) Moh Jumhur Hidayat said.
"We hope that the Indonesian workers when they arrive home will be happy on being reunited with their families," Jumhur said in a text message on Wednesday.
Jumhur expected that the Indonesian workers would not hesitate to integrate again with other members of the community in their home towns.
The 460 Indonesian workers are now accommodated at the Indonesian embassy's boarding house in Amman.
According to the Indonesian Ambassador to Jordan and Palestine Zainulbahar Noor, most of the problematic Indonesian migrant workers came from West Java, Banten, Central Java and East Java provinces.
They have been staying at the embassy boarding house between six to 12 months. They were there because some have had their work contracts expired, not paid, under age (18 years but in their passports they were said to be 25 - 30 years), forced to change employers by manpower supplier agencies, or suffered from violence by their employers.
Some of them were handed over by their supplier agencies and some others by their employers. They were considered to have over stayed their permits and were asked to pay an over stay fine by the local governments.
Some of the repatriation costs are to be borne by their employers (flight tickets), some by the BNP2TKI and some others by the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry.
In the meantime, a number of Indonesian diplomats from Jeddah, Dubai, Sana'a, Riyadh, Kuwait, Doha, Damascus and Abu Dhabi held a coordination meeting in Amman to discuss the Indonesian migrant workers problem.
The coordination meeting was chaired by Jumhur Hidayat and was also attended by Indonesian Ambassador to Jordan and Palestine Zainulbahar Noor, Director for Middle East Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aidil Chandra Salim, Director of Protection and Advocacy for Middle East, Africa and Europe Syaiful Idhom, Director for External Cooperation for Middle East, Africa and Europe Siswaningsih and other officials from BNP2TKI.
