US, RI GOVTS DEVELOP METHOD TO SUPPORT REGULATION REFORMS

Jakarta, July 30 (ANTARA) - The program on regulation reforms will be very important and strategic for Indonesia's future although it would be complicated and have a lot of requirements, Director of USAID Indonesia, Walter North, said.

As Indonesia is a big nation, its regulations related to the program will be felt till the next several decades, Walter North said in a press release on a seminar organized by the National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) here Thursday.
The seminar with the theme To Reach Legal Certainty Through Regulation Reforms highlighted the importance of regulation reforms in Indonesia.

The seminar which was attended by more than 100 high ranking officials from government institutions discussed concepts on methods to reform national regulations which were expected to collect, select, and make initial analysis on a number of regulations.
Bappenas in cooperation with the SENADA project which was funded by USAID had developed a method on efficient evaluation of regulations to help the Indonesian government conduct reforms.

Bappenas proposed that the method be incorporated in the National Medium Term Development Plan and the Annual Development Plan.
In the seminar, Bappenas officially introduced the national reformation plan for the first time to the legal bureaus of government institutions both at central and regional levels.

The seminar participants considered that Indonesia should do more to make itself a place hospitable and conducive to businesses if it wished to draw more domestic and foreign investments.
USAID SENADA is a four-year program aimed at sharpening the competitive edge of manufacturing companies. SENADA focuses on the industries of foot ware, automotive components, garment, household utensils, and communication and technology information. ***
