CHIEF OF AZERI ANTI-DRUG COMMISSION: WE SHOULD BENEFIT FROM RESOURCES OF INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS IN FIGHTING AGAINST DRUGS

Baku, July 31 (AzerTAc). Azerbaijan should make the most efficient use of resources of international organizations to strengthen its fight against drug addiction and illegal drugs haul, said chairman of the country`s State Drug Control Commission, deputy prime minister Ali Hasanov.
“We joined relevant international conventions, adopted a number of laws, and, at the same time, the government provides us every support,” said Hasanov.
“Azerbaijan has been making huge achievements in all spheres of life under President Ilham Aliyev. And this creates wider opportunities for our commission, too,” he added.
Hasanov said: “At the same time, the international organizations are also interested in this. There are no problems with getting anti-drug funding in the world. But, unfortunately, we do not take advantage of this.”
“It is not right to think that it is the government that must do everything. We should give up passivity. In particular we should involve the general public in taking preventive measures. We should strengthen anti-drug campaign in order to prevent our youngsters from falling into this evil. Why not benefit from religious bodies and our elders?”
“The media and NGOs are another great power that can help us. We should mobilize all existing efforts. We are part of the international organizations, we are enriching our experience, but, as for our activities within the country - they are unsatisfactory.”
Hasanov said: “I will instruct our working group to prepare more seriously for the next meeting of the commission`s board and present us a clear picture of the situation. I will also ask the ministry of national security to provide us with an in-depth analysis of the situation. We should reveal the reality in order to solve the problem together.”
