BAKRIE TO GIVE KALLA `MOST HONORABLE` POSITION
Makassar, INDONESIA, Aug 1 (ANTARA) - Golkar Party figure Aburizal Bakrie said if he was elected as the party's chairman, Vice President Jusuf Kalla would be given a most honorable position.
Aburizal made the satement at a meeting with Golkar Party cadres and organizers for South Sulawesi in Makassar on Saturday.
"Pak Jusuf Kalla (incumbent Golkar chairman) will be placed in the most honorable position," Aburizal said without elaborating what kind of position it was.
Aburizal said whoever would lead the party, whether the younger cadres, should have party leadership experience.
"There is no problem for younger cadres to be nominated for the party leadership so long as they have experience," Aburizal said.
Commenting on his position in the government if he was elected as Golkar chairman, Aburizal said he would position the party as an organization with its own ideas about government policies.
He said Golkar would fully support the government if every policy it made was good for the people, but the party would criticize the government if its policy failed to support people's welfare.
Earlier, here on Friday, Aburizal said if he was elected Golkar Party chairman, there was hope the party would win the general elections in 2014.
"In 2014, hopefully, we will win the general elections and the party will become big again and respected by both friends and rivals," he said at a meeting with party provincial and district executive board members.
He said he had already prepared five programs to achieve the goal such as conducting caderization down to village level and improving the organization to make the party more modern.
He said he would also produce local policies that matched with the local needs and open access to ideas from local cadres.
The other efforts would be making a success at the elections of regional leaders and in the legislative as well as presidential elections in 2014.
In general, Bakrie said, he would make improvements in the party particularly by recruiting cadres from all sectors selectively. ***
