STATE MINISTRIES BUDGET IN 2010 TO REACH RP327.6 TRILLION

Jakarta, Aug 3 (ANTARA) - The budget allocated for all state ministries/institutions in 2010 will reach Rp327.6 trillion, or an increase by Rp10.6 trillion compared the expected realization in 2009.

In his state-of-the-nation address before the extraordinary plenary session of the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Monday, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said the increased budget was to sustain the achievement of the targeted objectives in the government work plan 2010 (RKP-2010).

The president said that according to the priorities of the RKP-2010, a number of state ministries/institutions would receive quite a substantial amount of the budget allocation.

He said the Department of National Education in the coming 2010 is projected to receive Rp51.8 trillion, Department of Defense totaling Rp40.7 trillion, and the Department of Public Works amounting to Rp34.3 trillion.

While the Department of Religious Affairs will receive Rp 26.0 trillion, the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia (Polri) will get Rp25.8 trillion, Department of Health amounting Rp20.8 trillion, and the Department of Transportation with an amount of rp16.0 trillion.

The president said the large amount of education budget allocation for both the Department of National Education and the Department of Religious Affairs was mainly intended to finalize the execution of the compulsory nine-year basic education program.

He said it was also intended to improve the education quality, relevance, and competitiveness, and to improve the well-being of teachers.

"With an educational budget reaching 20 percent of the State Budget, we expect to enhance the quality of education in this country, with the purpose of building the nation's superiority and competitive edge in this 21st century," the president said.

The head of state said the quite large amount of budget allocation for both the Department of Public Works and the Department of Transportation was primarily focuses on the development of quality infrastructure and to sustain a better economic growth.

Meanwhile, the budget allocation priority for the Department of Defense and the National Police, according to the president, was to preserve the the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), and the maintenance of law and order of the community.

And the budget allocation priority of the Department of Health is on the improvement of the quality and expansion of equitable distribution of public health service. ***
