INFANT DIES OF SUSPECTED SWINE FLU IN JAKARTA

Jakarta, Aug. 3 (ANTARA) - Rifka, a two-year old boy, is suspected to have died of type-A influenza (H1N1) or swine flu at Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (RSCM) here on Monday at dawn.

Based on a medical diagnosis conducted by RSCM, Rifka was infected with the H1N1 virus, according to Nata Amban, a spokesman of the public hospital.

"Before he passed away, Rifka had been treated at the ICU unit for children," he said.

According to data at the hospital's morgue, Rifka's body was admitted to the morgue at 2.47 am local time. According to the doctors' diagnosis, Rifka died of H1N1 virus.

"This morning, his body was moved from the treatment room to here as he had died. They said the poor boy was infected with the H1N1 virus," Edi, an officer at the RSCM morgue, said.

Rifka's body was later taken home by his mother, Rohani, to Koba Baya RT013/06, Sukamanah Sukatani, Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java.

Only in approximately 36 days since the first case was found in Indonesia on June 24, 2009, the number of swine flu victims until Wednesday (July 29), had reached at least 444 or more than 12 victims a day, including one fatality.

Swine flu spreads fast because the virus is communicated from human to human through direct contact, coughing or items touched by infected people.

The health ministry on Wednesday (July 29) reported 28 new type-A influenza (H1N1) or swine flu cases had happened in seven provinces, namely Jakarta (13), East Java (5), Yogyakarta (3), West Java (3), Banten (2), Bali (1), and North Sulawesi (1).

The health ministry's Director General of Disease Control and Sanitation, Tjandra Yoga Aditama, said the 28 swine flu-infected people were Indonesian nationals, and four of them had earlier traveled to Singapore and Thailand.

Swine flu has now made victims in 15 provinces, namely Bali, Banten, Yogyakarta, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, South Kalimantan, Riau Island, North Sulawesi, South Sumatera, North Sumatera, East Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, and Jambi. ***
