KADIN : ECONOMIC GROWTH TARGET SHOULD BE 6 PERCENT
Jakarta, Aug 3 (ANTARA) -The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) says the government's national economic growth target of 5 percent should be increased to 6 percent.
With the 5-percent economic growth target mentioned by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in his state-of-the-nation address before an extraordinary plenary session of the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Monday, Kadin chairman MS Hidayat said, it would be difficult to improve the real sector.
"Five percent is less effective. It should be six percent," Hidayat said after attending the DPR extraordinary plenary session at the legislative building here on Monday.
Hidayat said if the domestic real sector grew well and was balanced with bureaucratic improvements, economic growth in 2010 could be stepped up to six percent.
"I think, the draft 2010 state budget is less expansive in the eyes of business makers," the Kadin chairman said, adding that the five percent economic growth set by the government was ineffective.
President Yudhoyono in the state-of-the-nation address said the in spite of global economic crisis, the government should continue to try maintaining the national economic growth at a relatively high rate, at least between 4 - 4.5 percent.
"If we could attain this, it would be a singular achievement in the midst of the current global economic recession," the president said.
The head of state said that when many countries were suffering from negative growth, Indonesia could still record a relatively high growth.
"In the coming years, parallel with the improving world economic situation and the implementation of the seven prioritized programs, God willing, our economy will grow by 5 percent or even more in 2010, and even faster than that in the subsequent years," the president said.
Meanwhile, State Minister for National Development Planning Board Paskah Suzetta said macro economic assumptions in the 2010 budget mentioned by President Yudhoyono had been expansive, or increasing from that in 2009.
"We have to keep in mind that the year 2010 is for world economic recovery, and it means we have to make it moderately with no need to be optimistic or pessimistic," Paskah Suzetta said. ***
