ENERGY SUBSIDY SET AT RP49.403 TRILLION

Jakarta, Aug 3 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government allocates Rp99.403 trillion for energy subsidy in the draft national budget for 2010 which is down from Rp102.461 trillion set in the 2009 revised budget.

Based on the government's financial note on the bill of the 2010 national budget received here on Monday the energy subsidy would be divided into Rp58.975 trillion for fuel oil subsidy and Rp40.433 trillion for electricity subsidy.

Based on the 2009 revised budget the fuel oil subsidy was recorded at Rp54.3 trillion and electricity subsidy Rp48.16 trillion.

Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro said he would take a number of steps to meet the subsidy target set in the 2010 draft budget.

"They include continuing the efficiency program in fuel oils and electricity consumption, the alternative energy substitution program and implementation of the kerosene-to-liquefied petroleum conversion program," he said.

The financial note also states non-energy subsidy which reaches Rp44.945 trillion making the total energy and non-energy subsidy to reach Rp144.355 trillion.

The figures are lower than those of the 2009 revised budget which stand at Rp159.95 trillion with Rp57.489 trillion of it going to non-energy.

The non-energy subsidy in the 2010 draft budget is for tax totaling Rp13.4 trillion, food reaching Rp11.8 trillion, fertilizers standing at Rp11.3 trillion, seeds Rp1.6 trillion, credit program interest Rp5.3 trillion and public service obligation (PSO) Rp1.5 trillion. ***
