“AZERBAIJAN IS STRATEGIC CROSSROAD THAT CANNOT BE IGNORED”, NEW ISRAELI AMBASSADOR

Baku, 4 August (AzerTAc). “I think that I found myself in a very interesting country at very interesting time. Azerbaijan suffered from the economic crisis much less than any other country, and closer relations between our states drove Israeli exports to Azerbaijan up. We have much more opportunities to cooperate and develop relations in the economic field with Azerbaijan than with other countries”, new Ambassador of Israel to Azerbaijan Mikhael Lavon-Lotem was quoted by Israeli press as saying.
In May Mr. Lavon-Lotem had several meetings with his predecessor Arthur Lenk. Furthermore, he has familiarized himself with different aspects of life in the region of South Caucasus. “I chanced to meet Azerbaijan businessmen who participated in the business forum and also talked to Israeli businessmen working in Azerbaijan. I think, I will have much work to do”, the Ambassador stressed.
The diplomat indicated the medicine as the most promising field for Azerbaijani-Israeli . “Applied medicine of Israel is highly valued by the countries of Central Asia and Caucasus, and we ought to work much in this direction. Another challenging sphere of cooperation between our states is agriculture, but this implies long-term plans and I am not sure that our businessmen will have so much patience for that”, ambassador said.
“President Ilham Aliyev is a strong leader. I have never been to Baku, but I am aware of the strategic value of Azerbaijan, which is the strategic crossroad that cannot be ignored”, the Ambassador stated.
Mr. Lavon-Lotem is a highly experienced and accomplished diplomat. His career has included a number of key appointments in Switzerland, Romania, Austria and Kazakhstan. Along with Jewish, he is fluent in English, Romanian, Italian, Russian and the Arabic languages. This week he is expected to leave for Azerbaijan, succeeding Arthur Lenk.
