PADANG INVITES INVESTORS TO BUILD INTEGRATED TELECOMMUNICATIONS TOWER

Padang, W Sumatra, Aug 7 (ANTARA) - The Padang city administration, West Sumatra, had invited both foreign and local investors to build an integrated telecommunications tower in an attempt to bring order to the mushrooming cellular towers in the area.

"We are offering investors to build an integrated telecommunications tower with various incentives in obtaining permits, and other requirements," Head of the Padang Investment Office Azwin said here on Thursday.

He said the mushrooming and blooming cellular telecommunications business had a bad impact on the irregular erection of big and tall towers.

"In Padang, for instance, scores of such towers had been erected by various cellular operators," he said.
This fact and situation obviously need regulations and re-ordering, if a forest of towers in urban areas is to be prevented.

Regulation of the Minister of Communications and Information No.2/2008, supports the joint erection of telecommunications towers.

"Thus, one tower is no longer under the control of a single operator, but specially designed and built for use by four up to eight cellular vendors," he said.
He also said that this policy is not intended to prevent telecommunications providers from making an investment, but the other way around to make things easier for them.

"There is no need for telecommunications operators to build new towers, as they only need to use the integrated towers made available by the regional administration," he said.
