YUDHOYONO BELIEVES TERRORISM CASES TO BE UNCOVERED


Jakarta, Aug 8 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said here on Saturday he believed police operations against terrorist suspects in the past two days would uncover the recent series of terrorism cases.

He made the statement at a press conference at the palace in response to a raid on terrorist suspects in a number of places on Friday and Saturday.

"I am convinced with God's blessing all will be uncovered, the links of recent incidents," he said.

The head of state said the police would continue to conduct the operations in the future.

In view of that he hoped the Indonesian people remained calm and would help fully anti-terrorism operations for the sake of the safety of all people in the future.

"There will remain challenges and threats to our safety in the future. Therefore let us support the police actions to enforce the law," he said.

President Yudhoyono also called on the media to be able to discern information needed by the public.

He critized media who disclosed information which the police often still treated as confidential.

"I called for unity in this case, (regarding) which one which may be made known to the public during on-going operations and which one still being considered confidential, to assure a success and accountability," he said.

President Yudhoyono said Indonesia respected democratic and legal norms so that all parties must not play with truth and justice.

A man believed to be terrorist suspect Noordin M Top wanted so far was killed during a police raid in a house belonging to Muhzuri in the village of Beji, Temanggung, Central Java. on Saturday morning.

The police's anti-terror unit had begun besieging the house since Friday afternoon before the raid was done.

Another anti-terror unit meanwhile had also killed two terrorist suspects during a raid in a house in Bekasi, Banten, West Java, on Saturday morning.

The two terrorist suspects killed were known as Air Setiawan and Eko Joko Supriyanto. The police believed the two had been involved in terrorism actions in several places including the recent bombings of JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels.
