POLICE ASKS FOR MONITORING OF EX-TERRORISM CONVICTS

Jakarta, Aug 8 (ANTARA) - Police have asked all parties and community members to help monitor ex-terrorism convicts to prevent them from getting involved in terror actions again.

He made the statement at a press conference here on Saturday afternoon following the discovery that one of terrorist suspects killed in a raid in Bekasi early on Saturday was an ex-terrorism convict.

"We hope after being released they are monitored and engaged again so that they will not return to the ring again," he said.

He said all parties must care about the ex-terrorism convicts to prevent them from repeating their action and for it an integrated concept and action were needed from other agencies.

The police killed Air Setiawan during a raid in a house in Puri Nusapala Housing Estate in Jatiasih, Bekasi, Saturday morning. Air was once jailed for five years for his involvement in the bombing at the Australian embassy in 2004.

After he was released he joined the same group again and planned to conduct other terror actions.

General Danuri also called on community members to monitor rented or boarding houses in their neighbourhoods as terrorists often used them as their base for plotting terrorism actions.

"In Jatiasih they could easily rent a house without the knowlege of their neighbours that number a lot and noone cared about what happened in the house," he said.

He said that attention needed to be paid to boarding houses because they could also conduct activities in a densely populated neighbourhood like in Mampang, South Jakarta.

Danuri said all parties had to care because the victims were also members of the community.

"Please give us, the military (TNI), information and then we together act so that they could not move further," he said.
