DEAD BEKASI TERROR SUSPECTS IMPLICATED IN TWIN HOTEL BOMBINGS

Jakarta, Aug 8 (ANTARA) - The two terror suspects shot dead by anti-terror police at the Puri Nusaphala housing complex in Jatiasih, Bekasi, West Java, on Saturday, were involved in last month's bomb attacks on the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels, police said.

"They were involved in the bombings of the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels last July 17, and in the bombing of the Australian embassy in Jakarta in 2004," Police Chief General Bambang Hendarso Danuri was quoted by Police Spokesman Brig. Gen. Sulistyo Ishak as saying on Saturday.

He said the two suspects were repeat terror criminals because they were also involved in the bombing at the Australian embassy.

The two suspects who were shot dead were Eko Joko Supriyanto and Air Setiawan. Police were forced to shoot them because they tried to throw bombs at the officers.

But police had not yet determined whether the bombs were assembled devices or hand-grenades. They were shot to death because they posed a threat to the officers' safety.

Their bodies have been taken to the Kramat Jati police hospital.

Anti-terror policemen also found hundreds of kilograms of explosive materials in a minivan car near the house.

On Thursday, Aug. 6, police also arrested another suspect named Yaya, in Koja, North Jakarta.

In Jakarta, police also arrested two other suspects, one named Ibrahim and another one was yet to be identified.

In Temanggung, Central Java, police arrested two suspects so bringing the the total number of terrer suspects arrested in the past several to five.
