VP : CINCERITY NEEDED TO SOLVE CONFLICTS

Palu, Aug 10 (ANTARA) - The basic requirement to solve a conflict in the country is sincerity, Vice President Jusuf Kalla said here on Monday.

"To solve a conflict we have to be sincere," the vice president said when speaking at a symposium to reflect on r the sectarian conflict in Poso, Central Sulawesi, 10 years ago.

Organized by the University of Tadulako in Palu, the symposium was themed "To Reorder Poso's Future and Harmony in a Multi-cultural Community."
According to the vice president, there were at least four lessons in the solution of the Poso conflict, namely the sincerity, strategy, problem mastery, and the logic of peace.

"It means we have to do something for others, expecting nothing in return. I did lose the election in Aceh and Poso but there is no problem. I solved the conflict there because I was sincere and not because I want to win the election," Kalla said.

He added that things like that should not be kept in mind because it would have influence if we were sincere.

"That the people of Poso are easy to forget is another matter," the vice president said, adding that he was not disappointed with his failure in the election.

On the occasion the vice president explained the beginning of his involvement in the solution of the Poso conflict ten years ago and the peace process afterward.
