SECURITY AT PRESIDENT`S PRIVATE RESIDENCE TIGHTENED
Cikeas, Indonesia, Aug 10 (ANTARA) - Security at President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's private residence has been tightened following the discovery of a terrorist plot to kill him.
Police and military personnel were on Monday seen stationed at strategic places leading to the president's private residence in Cikeas, Bogor.
Although members of the public are still allowed to ride or walk through the road leading to the president's house, they now have to pass three checkpoints while previously there were only two checkpoints.
All private cars entering the immediate neighborhood of the president's residence must pass thorough checks where security personnel take a close look at the cars' engines, trunks and passenger compartments.
On Monday, President Yudhoyono and Mrs Ani Yudhoyono arrived at the house from a working visit to Bali at around 11.30 am.
Meanwhile, the commander of the 3rd Siliwangi military region, Major General Rasyid Qurnuen Aquarry and West Java regional police chief Inspector General Timur Pradopo, were seen coming to the presidential residence at around 2 pm and they left half an hour later without giving any statement to waiting reporters.
Newsmen covering the presidential activities were not allowed to enter the presidential residence's compound and had to stop at the last check point.
The presidential security guards chief meanwhile said that they were ready to ensure security at the ceremony to mark the 64th anniversary of the country's independence day at the State Palace.
Major General Marciano Norman, said while accompanying the president on his visit in Bali on Monday, like before, people from various segments of the community would be invited to the State Palace for the traditional ceremony to observe national independence day on August 17, 2009.
He said the presidential security guards were ready to ensure the safety of the head of state and independence day celebration invitees.
Like in previous years, he said, the August 17 Independence Day commemoration activities will be held at the State Palace. "Many people will come to the palace then but we will ensure their safety. Security on the palace compound is the responsibility of the presidential security guards," he said.
He said the presidential security guards would also cooperate with the Jakarta military and police commands with regard to securing the palace activities.
"Security on the presidential palace compound is the responsibility of the presidential security guards but outside it is the responsibility of the regional military and police commands and therefore we are also cooperating with them," he said.
Regarding the discovery of a terrorist group's plan to attack the president's private residence in Cikeas, Marciano said the president had no plan to move from the house because of it. ***
