BODIES OF SUSPECTED TERRORISTS TO BE HANDED TO RELATIVES



Jakarta, Aug 12 (ANTARA) - National Police (Polri) Headquarters plans to hand the bodies of suspected terrorists to their families on Wednesday, Police spokesman Insp Gen Nanan Soekarna has said.

He said the bodies were still kept at Soekanto police hospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, and would be handed to their family members after identification.

"Besides announcing the identification result, we want to return the bodies to their family members today," Nanan Soekarna said without elaborating which bodies would be handed to the family.

He also said recently that all of the suspected terrorist bodies at the police hospital would be returned to the family after having been identified.

Five bodies of suspected terrorist are still at the Soekanto police hospital, and all of them have been identified as Dani Dwi Permana, Nana Ihwan Maulana, Air Setiawan, Eko Joko Sarjono, and Ibrohim.

Dani and Nana were the suicide bombers at JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels on Mega Kuningan street in Jakarta on July 17, 2009, while Air and Eko were terror suspects who were shot dead by the police during a raid on their hideout at Puri Nusapala housing complex in Jatiasih, Bekasi, West Java, on Aug 7, 2009.

Air and Eko were shot dead after they threatened throw a hand-made bomb at the police who raided their hideout at Jati Asih in Bekasi, West Java.

Police said DNA test showed on Wednesday that the fifth body was identified as Ibrohim, a militant killed in a police raid last Saturday in Temanggung, Central Java.

The police said the body was of Ibrohim, wanted over the July 17 bombing at JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels, and not of previously believed as Noordin Mohammad Top, a Malaysian extremist wanted for masterminding multiple suicide bombings in Indonesia, dating back to 2003.
