JUSUF KALLA-WIRANTO TICKET ACCEPTS COURT RULING

Jakarta, Aug 12 (ANTARA) - Lawyers of the Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto ticket stated here on Wednesday they accepted the Constitutional Court's ruling on the dispute over the results of the July 8 presidential election.

"Well that is the decision of the highest court and I think it is legitimate. Yes, we accept it, we appreciate the court's decision," the lawyers' chief, Chairuman Harahap, said after attending the reading of the court's ruling.

The Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto ticket finished third in the race which was won by incumbent president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Boediono as his running mate.
Chairuman said the Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto ticket's success team however had questioned the arguments used by judges for rejecting their complaints.

"Many of their legal arguments are still questionable," he said.

The Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto ticket's success team had filed a complaint regarding problems in the implementation of the presidential election on July 8.

The team considered the list of voters (DPT) used for the election inaccurate and therefore the election was legally flawed.

Chairuman said the latest soft copy of the DPT from the General Eelctions Commission (KPU) should have been made public. He said they also considered the KPU had not implemented the law on presidential elections.

Regarding the next step the team would take Chairuman said they would continue their political fight to create a really transparent democracy that really put people's political rights first.

"The control system for the implementation of elections in the future must be better so that it could detect quickly and effectively possible irregularities. More than that the DPT problem must never emerge again. One of the basis for the implementation of elections is DPT," he said.

Jusuf Kalla, who is Golkar Party general chairman, had earlier said that he would accept whatever the court would decide. He said the party would use the decision for its political stance for the next five years.

Golkar held a national leadership meeting Wednesday to determine the date and time for the party's conference.

It would also determine the mechanism for decision-making from central to local levels. It would also evaluate the general elections this year.
