ACEH JOLTED BY 19 EARTHQUAKES IN AUGUST

Banda Aceh, Aug. 14 (ANTARA) - A total of 19 earthquakes jolted Aceh Province during 1-13 August 2009, according to data from the Mata Ie meteorological and geophysics office (BMG).

"Up to yesterday, there were 19 earthquakes which could be detected their epicenters," Syahnan, head of the Mata Ie BMG, said here on Friday.

The range of the temblors' magnitude was between three and five on the Richter Scale and most of the epicenters were located in the western coast of Aceh, he said.

In the aftermath of the 8.9-magnitude earthquake which triggered a deadly tsunami in Aceh in December 2009, Aceh Province is almost every jolted by earthquakes having an average magnitude of four on the Richter Scale.
