POLICE STILL LOOKING FOR SUICIDE BOMBERS' RECRUITER

Jakarta, Aug 14 (ANTARA) - Police are currently trying to track down Saifuddin Jaelani, a religious teacher believed to have recruited the two young men who carried out the suicide bombings at the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels last July 17.

"We are still trying to find this man," who recruited Dani Dwi Permana and Nana Ihwan Maulana to do the suicide attacks, National Police Chief Bambang Hendarso said here Friday.

According to earlier reports, police had learned Jaelani once lived at the Telaga Kahuripan housing complex just south of Jakarta where people knew him as a religious teacher attached to a local mosque. He disappeared from the neighborhood about three months ago while Dani Dwi Permana also was a Telaga Kahuripan resident.

Danuri said the police were continuing to do everything within their capabilities to uncover or crush the entire terror network responsible for the hotel bombings."What the public can do now, is just pray we will succeed," he said after attending the House of Representatives (DPR) plenary session where President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono delivered an Independence Day speech.

Danuri said police were also trying to follow up on clues suggesting there had been a transfer of about Rp 1 billion in funds to finance the twin hotel bombings in Jakarta's Mega Kuningan area.

The police were now cooperating with the Center for Financial Transaction Reporting and Analysis (PPATK) to shed more light on the suspected funds transfer, he said.
