UAE H1N1 committee reviews emergency plans
Abu Dhabi, August 18, 2009 (WAM) - The Technical Health Committee for Combating H1N1 virus (Swine Flu) held a meeting yesterday with technical directors of hospitals and directors of primary health care departments to review response plans to the virus and hospitals' technical and administrative preparedness to handle a virus outbreak.
Dr. Ali bin Shuker, Chairman of the Committee, stated following the meeting that his body was implementing instructions given by the country's leadership and those issued by Dr. Hanif Hassam, Health Minister and Chairman of the National Supervisory Committee for Combating H1N1 for taking precautionary measures required to ensure blanket prevention of the virus transmission among members of the community.
“The Ministry of Health is joining forces with health authorities and other stakeholders in the country to activate and enforce all measures and arrangements for containing the spread of the virus to the maximum limited scope,” said Dr. Ali, who is also Director General of the Ministry of Health. The meeting, he said, was held in line with recommendations issued by the council of health ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council during a recent meeting in Kuwait.
He added that directors of hospitals were updated on the latest regional and international developments as well as recent changes in existing plans so as to cope with those events.
“The health care facilities and hospitals across the country are now having a clear-crystal concept on how to handle cases infected with the virus, how to isolate these cases, administer adequate medicines and identify the magnitude of danger of infection,” he explained.
“The medical, technical and administrative professionals are handing the situation with maximum degree of flexibility and transparency,” he affirmed. He stressed the importance of following up and implementing recommendations of the Technical Health Committee for Combating H1N1 in regards to registration of infected cases accurately and distinction between the actual infection with the virus and suspicious cases. The meeting also discussed present and future plans of these health facilities in case of a virus outbreak.
“Adoption of sound, affective measures will spare the country and community a lot of time and energy in keeping the virus, which has become a global pandemic, at bay,” he maintained. He appealed to all forces of the community to come forward and coordinate with the competent authorities to achieve the national aspired objectives in combating the disease. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
