Sultan Bin Tahnoun tours science and technology parks in China

Beijing - Aug 19, 2009 (WAM) - Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) HE Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan paid a visit on Sunday to the science and technology parks in China. Sheikh Sultan is a member of the delegation accompanying HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces in his current visit to China.
During his tour of China's major science and technology cluster that spreads over an area of 232sq kilometres in Beijing, Sheikh Sultan was briefed on various research ventures and projects in the fields of biotechnology, IT, missile and space technologies, agriculture, electronics, digital games, pharmaceuticals and mechanical equipments.
China has built over 54 science and technology parks across various parts of the country and is planning to increase the facilities to 80.
In one of such facilities over 20,000 are working to develop technological innovations, the officials pointed out.
An official said that some parks were farmlands a few years ago and were transformed to become centres of science and technology.
Sheikh Sultan hailed the achievements of China in the fields of science and technology.
