JAKARTA STOCKS FALL ON GLOBAL, REGIONAL STOCK LOSSES
Jakarta, Aug. 18 (ANTARA) - The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) here on Tuesday morning closed lower on losses at global and regional bourses.
The BEI index went down 80.284 points or 3.36 percent to 2,306.581 and the LQ45 index dropped 18.029 points or 3.85 percent to 449.707.
The Dow Jones index on Monday evening weakened as investors were worried that the market increased too rapidly in front of the economic condition, prompting the US stocks to tumble, the worst over the past six weeks.
Some stocks at regional bourses such as the Hang Seng index at Hong Kong bourse, and Straits Times index at Singapore bourse also tumbled.
Bumi Resources shares fell Rp200 to Rp3,025, Antam shares plunged Rp150 to Rp2,500, Astra Internasional shares tumbled Rp1,550 to Rp28,300 and Telkom shares dropped Rp250 to Rp8,450.
Meanwhile, earlier the IHSG) at the BEI opened lower as investors actively released their shares on profit taking moves.
The BEI index sharply fell 2.96 percent or 70.844 points to 2,317.572 points, and the LQ-45 index went down 16.054 points or 3.43 percent to 450.616 points.
The Indonesian currency traded at Rp10,005-Rp10,015 per US dollar, down 80 points from Rp9,925-Rp9,945 per US dollar at the market's close last weekend.
