BRUNEI MILY OFFICIALS VISIT ACEH
Banda Aceh, Aug 18 (ANTARA) - Several senior military officials from Brunei Darussalam visited Aceh on Tuesday to take a close look at the results of rehabilitation and reconstruction after tsunami disaster on December 26, 2004.
The officials including vice defense minister Col Datu Seri and armed forces commander Major General Halbi were welcomed by deputy governor of Aceh, Muhammad Nazar.
Brunei Darussalam which shares the Borneo island with Indonesia is one of the countries that has contributed to reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in Aceh after the tsunami disaster.
In the meeting deputy governor Nazar informed his guests about the province's natural resource potentials in mining, agriculture as well as trade.
He was offering cooperation with the Brunei government which is expected to invest in the sectors as well as others benefiting both parties.
Deputy defense minister Datu Seri had also told about socio-economic conditions and developments in his country.
He said Brunei had made more progress in the field of education which was free of charge in that country.
The government meanwhile has also given the people a subsidy to meet their the basic necessaries, he said.
On the occasion Datu Seri invited Aceh officials to visit his country to see its development.
"Come to our country to see the development that has been carried out by Brunei. Moreover Aceh and Brunei have common cultures," he said.
In response Nazar said he would meet the invitation. "The government of Brunei has frequently invited us. So, this time I must meet it," he said.
